Embotics Unveils Service-centric Cloud Automation Functionality with Latest Release of Embotics V-Commander®

Embotics Corporation, a pioneer in virtualization and cloud management software, today unveiled the newest version of Embotics V-Commander for delivering IT-as-a-service (ITaaS) using both private and public clouds. Embotics V-Commander focuses on transforming the management paradigm from individual virtual machines (VMs) to managing a wider range of IT services at the business level. End users can now request the provisioning of IT services consisting of logical aggregates of virtual and physical assets from within a single self-service catalog, streamlining the cloud management process to provide IT organizations with increased control, speed and agility.

Embotics V-Commander offers rapid provisioning, self-service, service catalogs, IT costing and chargeback, workflow automation, resource optimization and lifecycle management capabilities. Automated request and approval workflows for both virtual and non-virtual IT assets such as cell phones, laptop computers and physical servers save valuable time and provide more control to IT administrators. These configurable service bundles enable users to request the provisioning of mixed IT asset types (e.g., a new employee service bundle that includes a phone, laptop and a test VM) and are fully integrated with directory services like Active Directory. For the modern data center, this is essential to grouping items into logical units at the business level and freeing administrators from manually addressing the many line items normally associated with infrastructure-level provisioning.

“Cloud management needs are evolving rapidly. Maturing IT organizations are now seeking to leverage the same provisioning portal to deliver services, not just single virtual machines. A pure infrastructure-centric cloud management platform is apt for a technical audience, but cannot easily serve business-oriented cloud consumers,” said Alessandro Perilli, research director at Gartner. “A service-centric provisioning portal should present a list of business services that completely abstracts virtual infrastructure configuration details. Users should be able to indirectly customize the virtual infrastructure behind a business service by defining specific key performance indicators.”

“As a provider of information technology and business process services to hospitals, physician practice groups and other healthcare providers, we are using Embotics V-Commander to manage and optimize our private cloud as well as our customers’ private clouds,” said Jonathan Lasley, enterprise architect of Anthelio Healthcare Solutions. “Embotics V-Commander is an excellent fit for our company and customers due to its ease of use and installation, out-of-the-box features and reporting capabilities.”

Embotics V-Commander includes the following new benefits:

  • IT organizations can offer any service they like in the service catalog, whether physical or virtual in nature.
  • End users can make requests that are tailored to their needs.
  • Consumers can track all their VM and non-VM IT requests in real-time.
  • End users receive better and more encompassing service levels.
  • IT administrators save even more time with broader support for more IT assets.
  • Extensible to Amazon EC2 public cloud platform.

“Embotics V-Commander allows end users to provision at the service level, which lets IT staff step back despite growing management demands. Rather than looking at one tree at a time, they can see the whole forest and make smarter decisions that benefit the overall business,” said Jay Litkey, CEO of Embotics. “With support and extensibility for public cloud infrastructures such as Amazon EC2, Embotics becomes the all-in-one cloud management platform for an even broader range of customers.”

Embotics will be conducting a preview of Microsoft Hyper-V support and demonstrating Embotics V-Commander with service-centric enhancements and Amazon EC2 integration at VMworld booth #616 from Sunday, August 26, 2012 through Wednesday, August 29, 2012.
